Cable Thieves Disrupt Train Services From Market Harborough

Disruption to train services from Market Harborough has been caused by the theft of signalling cables.

The railway had to be completely closed after thieves struck between Kettering and Wellingborough in the early hours, disabling signalling systems.

All lines have now re-opened after Network Rail engineers replaced the cables, although East Midlands Railway is warning of residual delays.

A spokesperson said: “There will be congestion in the area as a result of the earlier line closure and trains and crew are out of place, we are now working to get trains running to their advertised times again but we expect this to take several hours.”

Last week thieves stole telecommunications cable from near Clipston and Mowsley, knocking out phone lines and broadband services to hundreds of homes and businesses.
