Kibworth Charity Event Raises £4,000

People who supported a big fundraiser in Kibworth are being thanked after it raised £4,000.

Various events took place at the Railway Arms pub over the Platinum Jubilee Weekend in aid of cancer charity GEMS, which is based in the village.

The cash has just been presented and will be used to help refurbish and extend the Chemotherapy suite at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

GEMS is also thanking Jeff Pearce, Derek Ward, Sam Sheilds and the numerous volunteers that helped at the 3-day event.

Jack Harling from Smeeton Westerby, who had been growing his hair and beard since January, had it shaved off in the pub, raising over £600 and £800 was raised at the charity’s stall at the event.

The amount raised during the fundraiser was just short of £3,950, but a kind-hearted villager offered to donate the money needed to take it to £4,000.

Andy and Sally Anderson, who run GEMS charity said: “We really appreciate all the hard work that Jeff, Sam and Derek put it to make this possible, they really are amazing people to give their time and everything that goes with putting in a fantastic event.”
