Energy Rebate Payments Begin Across Harborough

Over 20,000 residents across Harborough will start to receive £150 energy rebate payments from today.

The District Council is administering the government scheme, to help households living in council tax bands A to D with the soaring cost of energy bills.

Most people will see the money appear in their bank accounts by the end of the month, although those who don’t pay council tax by direct debit will be sent a letter with details how to get the money via the Post Office.

A spokesman for Harborough District Council said: “If you have not received your payment direct into your account by the first week in June, or you do not pay by direct debit, it is safe to assume that your payment will be made through the Post Office.

“These letters will start to be sent within the next three weeks but please be assured that nobody who qualifies for the rebate will be missed or forgotten so we would ask that you bear with us and continue to visit our website for further updates rather than telephoning. We will also continue to share updates on social media and will update the FAQs on our website regularly.

“The Government expects local authorities to have made payments under this scheme by September 2022. Of course, we appreciate that people are facing a cost of living crisis now and we are doing all we can to make these payments as soon as possible.”

The Council, which was handed £4.2m by the government to distribute, says details will be announced soon about a separate scheme, for those who need help, but aren’t eligible for the main scheme.

North Northamptonshire Council began making the payments last week, while West Northamptonshie Council says payments will be made in ‘mid-May’.
