Warning Over Scam Calls About Energy Rebate Payments
Written by HFM News on 5th May 2022
A warning has been issued about scam texts and calls claiming to be from councils to process energy rebate payments.
Tricksters have been contacting people asking for their bank details and those who have provided them have then seen large sums of cash taken from their accounts.

Harborough District Council, which is set to make the £150 one-off payments to around 28,000 households this month, says it will never ask for bank details by text, phone or email.
Most people will receive the money directly into their accounts and others will be sent letters detailing how to claim their rebate via the Post Office.
Both North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire Councils will be doing similar.
Anyone who receives a call or text from someone purporting to be from their local council asking for bank details is urged to ignore it.
