Market Harborough Swimming Club trophy on display in Harborough Museum

Visitors to Harborough Museum now have a fascinating new exhibit to
enjoy – thanks to Market Harborough Swimming Club.

It’s a historic silver ‘Diving Challenge’ trophy first awarded by the
Ladies’ Club in 1930. It was used each year until this competition was
dropped in 1990 due to the move from the old to the new swimming pool –
which was considered not deep enough.

The Birmingham hallmarked silver cup features the names of the winners
between those dates – which the current committee thought would be of
wider interest as part of Market Harborough’s history.

Now it’s gone on display in the Symington Building, it’s hoped the
children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of some of the names on
there may be interested in both its existence and its long history.
