Visitors to Harborough Museum now have a fascinating new exhibit toenjoy – thanks to Market Harborough Swimming Club. It’s a historic silver ‘Diving Challenge’ trophy first awarded by theLadies’ Club in 1930. It was used each year until this competition wasdropped in 1990 due to the move from the old to the new swimming pool –which was considered not deep enough. The Birmingham hallmarked silver cup features the names of the winnersbetween those dates – which the current committee thought would be ofwider interest as part of Market Harborough’s history. Now it’s gone on display in the Symington Building, it’s hoped thechildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren of some of the names onthere may be interested in both its existence and its long history.
