Park and stride initiative at local school

Children at a Harborough Primary School have been setting the pace for a new initiative to help reduce traffic congestion, get active and healthier and reduce air pollution near their school.Pupils from Sherrier Primary in Lutterworth took part in their own park and stride scheme, with the kids acting as junior safety officers – teaching their peers about road safety – and have now signed up for the Leicestershire County Council launch.‘Park and stride’ schemes involve the use of nearby car parks for children to then walk the rest of the way – normally five to ten minutes from the school – accompanied by their parents, carers, or guardians. The Council hopes that park and stride will expand to include more schools in the Harborough district over time – with further schemes set to open in May, to mark National Walking Month. If you’d like to launch a park and stride scheme with your local school, you’re being asked to get in touch.
