Home Secretary Leads Tributes To Simon Cole

The Home Secretary has been leading tributes to Leicestershire Police’s former Chief Constable who died yesterday.
Simon Cole, who was 55, was found at his home in Kibworth Harcourt, after recently retiring from the force having served in policing for over 30 years.
Priti Patel said he was ‘passionate about delivering for the people of Leicestershire’ and ‘dedicated his life to policing.’

The County Flag of Leicestershire is flying at half mast on Harborough District Council’s Symington Building in Market Harborough today, as a mark of respect.
People who knew Mr Cole on a personal and professional level have been paying tribute to him today.
Willy Bach, who was Leicestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner from 2016 until he stepped down last year, spoke to Hfm:

Harborough MP Neil O’Brien said Mr Cole was a ‘committed public servant, who made a huge contribution across Leicestershire and Rutland’, while Leader of Leicestershire County Council, Nick Rushton said ‘his mission in life was dedicated to making our communities stronger and safer.’
Leader of the Harborough District Liberal Democrats, Phil Knowles, said: “Simon was in my opinion a leading moderniser taking the Police Service through some extremely challenging times.
“His service to the public gained him much admiration. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and former colleagues at this sad time.”
Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council Leader has also paid tribute, saying ‘Simon was an outstanding public servant to the people of Harborough, Leicestershire and Rutland.
He spoke to Hfm of his shock and sadness:
Leicestershire Police say Mr Cole’s death has been referred to the Coroner and their thoughts and prayers are with all of Simon’s family and friends at this difficult time.
