‘Chipmunk’ Anniversary Celebrated With Special Flypast
Written by HFM News on 27th September 2021
The 75th Anniversary of the ‘Chipmunk’ aircraft was marked with a special fly-past over Leicestershire and Rutland.
A number of the iconic planes, which were used by the RAF as a training aircraft, took off from Leicestershire Aero Club, near Stoughton and formed a ’75’ over Rutland Water.
Over 700 were built for the RAF, the Royal Navy and the Army before they ended service in 1996.
About 120 of the De Havilland Chipmunk planes are still on the UK civilian register now and a good proportion of them still flying.
Chipmonk pilots from as far away as Belgium and Holland were involved in marking the anniversary on Friday.
