Approval given for housing development in Market Harborough town centre

Written by on 21st July 2021

Plans to convert an historic office building in Market Harborough town centre into eleven apartments have been given the go-ahead.

The approved scheme for the Fisher German base at the top of the High Street, next to the Angel Hotel, also includes building ten mews style
houses at the rear of existing site, which is in the town’s conservation area.

The chartered surveyors have used the grade-two listed building since 1960 but, when its lease comes to an end next year, they are set to
re-locate to new office space elsewhere in town.

Despite some Councillors’ reservations about the lack of a Section 106 contribution from the developer – and the provision of just twenty
onsite parking spaces for 21 new homes – approval was granted for the scheme at a meeting of Harborough District Council’s Planning Committee
last night (20th July).
