Ben’s Big Fundraiser After Life-Changing Operation

Written by on 25th June 2021

An inspirational Market Harborough man battling cancer has had his life transformed by a specialist operation on his nerves.

Ben Johnson had suffered two years of agonising pain, but can now move more freely and begin to enjoy life again.

He funded the operation using some of the £10,000 raised for him last year, when an on-line fundraiser was set-up.

The nerve damage was caused following extensive surgery to remove a tumour from around his heart in 2017 and chemotherapy treatment.

Ben was told last year the cancer had returned, but a recent ultra sound scan showed the tumour in his chest has shrunk slightly.

He will now embark on a fundraiser of his own – using his love of motorbikes to ride from Land’s End to John O Groats via back roads – a distance of about 1,300 miles, with friend Wesley Cash.

It will raise money for charities that continue to support him and towards his on-going alternative treatments, including specialist oxygen therapy.

Ben spoke to Hfm’s Nick Shaw:
