Fire Highlights Importance Of Working Smoke Alarms

A fire in Desborough has highlighted the importance of having a working smoke alarm.

The occupant of a property off High Street was alerted to a blaze in their kitchen by an alarm yesterday.

A saucepan of cooking has set alight and fire crews were sent to the scene just before 4pm.

The blaze was confined to the pan and put out by the occupier before firefighters arrived.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crew ensured the kitchen was well ventilated and left the scene at 4.15pm.

“We urge people to never leave food unattended when cooking and to ensure that they have a working smoke alarm, as this resident did.”
