Pupils Told To Learn From Home After ‘Rush’ Of Covid-19 Cases

Pupils in two year groups at Kibworth Mead Academy have been told not to go into school this week, after some youngsters and staff tested positive for Coronavirus.

Those in Years 8 and 9 will be learning remotely until Friday and Year 11 students, who were in school last Thursday and Friday, have also been told to self-isolate.

The school had gone 13 weeks without a positive case and says it took the decision following discussions with Public Health England.

In a letter to parents and carers, principal Emma Merry said “It is unfortunate to inform you that we have had a rush of positive Covid-19 cases reported to us across the community in Kibworth over the weekend that have affected a number of staff and students.

“Clearly these are challenging times for us all, particularly after a half term holiday and with public restrictions being lifted.

“We appreciate this will be frustrating and disappointing for you and your family however please be reassured this decision has not been taken lightly and live lessons and tutor activities and support will continue in line with your child’s timetable.

“This is such a shame when as a school and community we have done so well up until this point, however I am sure you will understand how important it is to endeavour to try and keep everyone as safe as possible during such times.”

Keyworker and vulnerable children in the affected year groups can still attend school..
