The District Council is to bid for £54,000 of government cash to install ten charging points for electric vehicles in Market Harborough car parks.
The authority’s Executive agreed to push ahead with the plan last night.
If the bid is successful they will be installed in the Doddridge Road, St Mary’s Road West and Angel Street car parks.
The funding is available for projects which make charging for environmentally-friendly vehicles available to residents who do not have access to off-street parking.
The idea is they would charge their cars overnight in the car parks, just paying for the power used.
Currently there are six charging points in four car parks in the District, with the number of battery-powered cars across Harborough likely to increase from 244 to over 6,000 over the next four years.
