Council Set To Bid For Cash To Install More Electric Car Charge-Up Points

More charging points for electric vehicles could be installed in Market Harborough.
The District Council is considering bidding for over £54,000 of government cash towards the cost of placing ten in the Doddridge Road, St Mary’s Road West and Angel Street car parks.
There are currently 244 battery-powered cars registered in the district, according to government figures, although it’s thought that could rise to over 6,000 by 2025.
The funding is being made available for projects which make charging for environmentally-friendly vehicles available to residents who do not have access to off-street parking.
The idea is they would charge their vehicles overnight in the car parks, just paying for the power used.
If approved, the Council would enter into partnership with an installation company who would maintain the points for seven years.
Currently there are just six charging points in four car parks across the District.
The plan will be discussed at a meeting of the Council’s Cabinet next week.
