Clampdown On ‘Laughing Gas’ Use Across Harborough To Move A Step Closer

Plans are progressing to introduce new powers to help tackle the increasing use of so-called ‘laughing-gas’ across the Harborough District.
A public consultation is set to be launched next month by the District Council, into introducing a new public place protection order.
If implemented, it would ban people from using Nitrous Oxide in public places – giving Police the power to arrest anyone who refused to hand over canisters.
Currently powers are limited, because it’s not illegal to possess the gas – which is inhaled to give an instant ‘high’ – as it has some legitimately uses
As well as being a serious health risk, the littering of the small silver canisters is causing concern.
