Plans have been announced for a new business park on the outskirts of Market Harborough, which has the potential to create hundreds of jobs.
It approved, it would be constructed on 33 acres of land between the B6047 Harborough Road and Gallow Field Road, behind Harborough Innovation Centre and adjacent to the Showground.
A number of farm buildings currently on the site would be demolished to make way for the development, to be known as Wellington Business Park.
Historically, the site formed part of the airfield that was used by the RAF in World War II and was home to the Wellington Bombers of No. 14 Operational Training Unit of RAF Bomber Command.

“We share our client’s ambition for the site and look forward to showcasing the breadth of opportunity it offers to investors, developers and businesses, locally, regionally and nationally – and creating business opportunities in the local community.
A document within the application states: “The scheme comprises a new business park which will complement the allocation and delivery of 1,500 dwellings at the North West Market Harborough Strategic Ddevelopment Area.
“The main objective of this proposal is to create a new gateway to the North of Market Harborough, comprising a high-quality commercial offering to benefit the economy of the Town.
“The scheme comprises a flexible mix of commercial units including a cafe, sensitively designed within existing and proposed high-quality landscaping.
“A large green space at the entrance to the development will incorporate recreational paths linking to the south of the Site and will be designed as a formal gateway into the development.”
