There are fears for the future of two restaurants in Market Harborough in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Pizza Express & Zizzi restaurants in Market Harborough

Pizza Express is to close around 75 of its sites across the country and a similar number are to be shut by the company that owns Zizzi, putting about 2,000 jobs at risk.

It’s not yet been announced which outlets will close – both the restaurants in Harborough have yet to re-open since shutting in March because of the lock-down.

Steven Holmes, the chief executive of Azzurri Group, owner of Zizzi and Ask Italian, said the ‘profound impact’ of the UK lockdown on the casual dining sector had brought the company ‘to a standstill’.

He said: “It is with deep sadness that this process will result in the permanent closure of a number of sites and that we must say goodbye to greatly valued employees across our brands.”
