Latest Plan For Future Of Leisure Centre Revealed
Written by HFM News on 16th July 2020
Market Harborough could still get a brand new Leisure Centre.
Harborough Council will explore if building a new facility on an alternative site, or a major re-vamp of the current centre is the best option.
Its cabinet had been asked to back the refurbishment plan, but decided both alternatives need to be looked at.
The Council says it will need to consider the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the project and how leisure provision will look going forward.
Cllr Simon Whelband, Cabinet lead for Wellbeing, Communities and Housing, spoke to Hfm:
Alternative sites to be looked at will include on the Airfield Farm development and residents will be asked their views during a public consultation this autumn.
Over £21m was set-aside by Harborough Council for improvements to leisure centres in Market Harborough and Lutterworth a few years ago.
The Council says it will also continue to look to refurbish Lutterworth Sports Centre.
