New Coronavirus Infection Data Released

The parts of the Harborough District where there have been more than 50 confirmed cases of coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic have been revealed.

New data has been broken down to report figures in areas which have an average population of just over 7,000.

Southern Market Harborough and Little Bowden has 55 cases, Kibworth and Great Glen 50 and there are 60 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Houghton On The Hill, Thurnby and Scraptoft.

They are among 17 areas of Leicestershire where the number is 50 or more.

Health bosses are urging people with symtoms to get a test and isolate if they need to.

Health bosses say the Coronavirus infection rate across Leicestershire is failing to fall as fast as other areas.

Although there is no link to the spike in Leicester, the rest of the county has moved from being well below the national average, to one which is now similar.

New data from the start of the pandemic shows the rate of infection across Harborough in 397 confirmed cases per 100,000 people, ranking the District 6th in a list of 8 areas in terms of cases.

That’s less than half the rate of 1,116 cases in Leicester city, but significantly above the rate of 294 cases in Melton and 302 in North West Leicestershire.

The average rate throughout Leicestershire is 431, it’s 445 in the East Midlands and 440 in England.

Mike Sandys, Director of Public Health at Leicestershire County Council, said: “The key to getting this under control is in all of our hands. It’s important all residents continue to heed national advice – know the symptoms, get a test if you have symptoms and isolate if you need to.”
