Unemployment Across Harborough Triples Since Lock-Down

There has been another increase in unemployment across Harborough.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show 2150 people are out of work and claiming Job Seekers Allowance – up 620 from last month.

The figures show unemployment in the District has tripled since the coronavirus lockdown began in March.

Last week it was revealed 11,500 people across Harborough have been furloughed because of the pandemic – about 27% of the working population – meaning the government is paying 80% of their wages.
