Plans Afoot Ahead Of More Shops Re-Opening

Written by on 9th June 2020

Plans are being put in place ahead of more shops being allowed to re-open in Market Harborough next week.

Some parking bays in the town centre are set to be closed off, to help with space for queuing outside shops and safe passing by pedestrians, and a team is set to be out on the streets to help manage any large queues.

The government is allowing ‘non-essential’ stores to reopen from Monday and Harborough Council is to confirm the various measures later this week.

It is  thought between 60 and 70% of the town’s independent retailers will re-open, plus some national chains, with others planning to open their doors again over the coming weeks.

Jarrod Burke runs specialist confectionery shop Randalls on Church Square and is Chairman of the Harbs Collective, which represents the town’s independent retailers, and told Hfm shops are doing their bit too:

Meanwhile, public toilets in Market Harborough town centre will reopen on Monday.

The block in the Commons car park, which was closed in late March because of the Coronavirus pandemic, will operate on a one in – one out basis, with a Harborough Council worker on site to manage that and to thoroughly clean the toilets hourly.

They will be open from 8.30am-5.30pm seven days a week.
