Work Starts On New ‘Cycle Hub’ At Railway Station

Work has begun to create better facilities for cyclists who use Market Harborough Railway station.

The ‘Cycle Hub,’ which is costing £180,000, will provide safer sheltered storage space for 140 bikes at the front of the station.

The project is being funding by the Department for Transport, East Midlands Railway and Harborough Council.

Passengers who use cycles to get to and from the station have complained storage facilities haven’t been good enough, since they were moved following the major upgrade of the station.

The new facility, which was originally planned for 100 bikes, is expected to be completed and open for use next month.

A spokesperson for East Midlands Trains told Hfm: “Over the last few weeks, we have been assessing which of our projects can continue safely under the latest government guidance.

“We believe that this project should be able to be completed within the current environment and we have an estimated completion of circa June, unless the current situation changes.”
