Coronavirus: Friday’s Updates

Harborough Police have issued seven fines in two days to people flouting the government’s lock-down rules.

All have been given to people who were gathering in groups of more than two – who were not family members – and refused to disperse when told to by officers.

The £60 fixed penalty notices – among 20 issued across Leicestershire – followed incidents in Market Harborough, Kilby Bridge, Lutterworth and Wigston.

No fines have yet been issued in Northamptonshire.

Meanwhile, with the Easter weekend here and good weather, Police are urging people continue adhering to the lock-down restrictions.

Leicestershire’s Chief Constab;e, Simon Cole, said: “Sadly we are seeing the number of deaths from Covid-19 rising every day across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland,” he says.

“We can all play a part in reducing those deaths and protecting the NHS by staying in. We have seen people from all sorts of backgrounds being taken ill. That has included the royal family and the Prime Minister. One of my own household has been unwell and we have had to self-isolate.

“It’s vitally important that we all keep following the advice issued to date in order to minimise the risk of this virus spreading throughout our communities. If you go out then you may catch more than just the sun. This isn’t a time to be making unnecessary trips to the seaside.

 

Over a hundred people are now being helped by a Community Hub launched by Harborough Council to offer vital support to vulnerable residents across the District.

It was set-up last week together with Market Harborough charity VASL, to reach those in particular need during the Coronavirus outbreak, including people with no close family or friends.

The service is helping to arrange shopping and medication deliveries and providing a friendly voice on the phone.

The Hub is open today (Good Friday (9am-3pm) and Easter Monday (9am-3pm). It will not be accessible on Sat & Sun (11/12 Apr). More on the Hub HERE

Harborough’s bin collection crews are thanking people for the big support they’re receiving as they continue to work hard during the Coronavirus outbreak.

People have been placing thank you messages and gifts on their bins on collection day to show their appreciation.

The workers from Council contractor FCC Environment are also encouraging people to continue waving at them from their houses!
