Coronavirus – Friday’s Local Updates

A Market Harborough charity is offering £100 grants to people who are struggling financially because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Howard Watson Symington Memorial Charity wants to help those who have been made redundant or had their wages reduced.

It has launched the emergency £5,000 fund for people in Market Harborough, Little Bowden and Great Bowden.

‘Expect to be spoken to’ – the message from Harborough Police – who are now enforcing the government’s lock-down rules imposed because of Coronavirus.

Officers can now issue fines and use dispersal powers if groups of more than two are gathering.

So far they have been pleased with the number of people abiding by the restrictions and staying at home unless it’s for an essential journey.

A Kibworth pub is providing hundreds of free meals to help those in particular need at this time.

The Railway Arms has teamed up with The Well charity in the village to offer the service to vulnerable individuals and families.

An on-line fundraising page has been launched to help subsidise the ‘Buy To Provide’ initiative.

If you have a spare webcam knocking around your house it could be put to a very good use over the next few weeks.

Market Harborough Medical Centre need them so some doctors can work from home and give medical consultations over the internet.

Lubenham-based IT firm Apograph is co-ordinating collections and will test the cameras before handing the over – they’ll then be handed back once they are no longer needed.
