Harborough District Council planning applications

Supermarket giant Aldi has handed in amended plans to Harborough District Council for a new five million pound supermarket in Lutterworth.

The retailer wants to build it on land off Rugby Road, opposite St Johns Business Park – to include the creation of a new park and picnic area – and says it will create 40 jobs.

The scheme was revised after initial concerns from the Environment Agency about the impact of the new building on the River Swift flood plain.

It now also includes the widening of Rugby Road to enable better access for vehicles, with an extra footpath and new pedestrian crossings.

Meantime the council’s planning committee has unanimously rejected a second application for a dog day care centre off Drayton Road in Medbourne.

It followed dozens of objections from villagers and the Parish Council – on the grounds that the noise caused by barking dogs would be unacceptable.
