Thousands of fish have been moved from Foxton Locks and rehomed further down the canal.
The major rescue operation has been completed ahead of the water being drained through the historic flight, so major restoration work, which is set to take nearly three months, can take place.

Specialist fisheries contractors temporarily stunned around 5,000 fish using an electric pulse, which is harmless, enabling them to be carefully netted and moved to sections of the canal either side of the locks.

The Canal and River Trust, which is carrying out the £150,000 project, has also announced there will be a series of special weekend open days during the work, where visitors will get to the rare chance to walk down into the bottom of one of the drained locks.
