Frustration New Station Car Park Remains Closed

Train users are frustrated a car park extension at Market Harborough railway station is not yet open, despite it appearing ready for use.

The 200 extra spaces, taking the total number to 500, is the final part of the £53m upgrade of the station.

With the current car park regularly becoming full by 9am during the week, the extra room is badly needed.

However, Network Rail say the extension won’t open until the middle of next month as the final stages of work on it still need to be carried out, although will not confirm what that work is.

A spokesperson said: “Network Rail is continuing to work on the new car park at Market Harborough station and it is on schedule to open in mid-December.

“The final stages of work are being carried out, and once complete passengers will benefit from 200 additional parking spaces.”

East Midlands Railway has not commented, saying responsibility of the car park works lies with Network Rial.
