Thieves Steal Handbags In Supermarket Car Parks

Police patrols are being stepped up in supermarket car parks in Market Harborough after five handbag snatches in ten days.

Thieves have been preying on women as they return to their cars. stealing the bags after they had been placed on the ground while shopping is loaded into boots, or inside unlocked vehicles.

The thefts have all taken place in the early evening in the Sainsbury’s car park, the one shared by Waitrose and Aldi, as well as the Lidl supermarket car park.

During one of the incidents the victim chased the male thief, but he got away.

Pc Malc Roberts from Harborough Police told Hfm CCTV footage is being studied and undercover officers are involved in the hunt to catch those responsible:

Officers are urging people to be on-guard and to be suspicious of anyone paying close attention to them or their vehicle.
