Controversial Plan Set For Refusal

Controversial plans for a major development in Great Glen could be thrown out next week.

Harborough Council planning officers are recommending the proposal for over 30 acres of land off Chestnut Drive is refused, saying it would harm the countryside location, impact on heritage locations near-by, and be isolated from the rest of the village.

The joint plan by Leicester Grammar School and Homes England, the government’s housing, land and regeneration agency, includes a 60-bedroom Extra Care facility, 32 bungalows and new sports facilities for the school.

225 villagers have sent objection letters to the Council.

The Council’s Planning Committee will consider the proposal at a meeting on Tuesday.
