A6 Market Harborough bypass

Highway bosses are to apply for £2.2m of government cash to pay for much-needed resurfacing on the A6.

If successful it would see the work carried out on the Market Harborough bypass, between the McDonald’s roundabout and Rockingham Road junction, and to the county boundary past Clack Hill.

Leicestershire County Council is set to submit the bid to the Department for Transport next week – in total it’s asking for five million pounds for a number of projects across the County.

The total bid is for just under £5 million, the £2.2 million would just be the Market Harborough works.

Harborough MP Neil O’Brien is backing it, he said: “I know from my constituents how important this bypass is, and I am keen to ensure we secure funds to enable its resurfacing. The road was built back in 1992 and remains heavily used to this day, so it’s very much due for these improvements.”
