Street Named After War Hero

A teenage solider killed in action during World War One has been honoured after a street in his home village of Fleckney was named after him.

Dorothy Burt, Alan Wright (Trainee Assistant Site Manager at David Wilson Homes), Council Chairman Cllr Barbara Johnson, James Bailey (Assistant Site Manager at David Wilson Homes) and Steve Curtis (Site Manager at David Wilson Homes)

Private Alonza Garner, who was a member of the Leicestershire Regiment, was just 19 when he died in Flanders, Belgium, in 1917, whilst charging an enemy patrol.

Garner Way has been unveiled on the new David Wilson Homes development in the village after his great niece Dorothy Burt nominated him for the honour, as part of a Harborough Council initiative.
