Over 100 Drivers Arrested

Police say they’re disappointed and concerned that over a hundred drivers were arrested for being under the influence of drink or drugs during June.
Of the 90 drink and 14 drugs arrests, five were in the Harborough District, in Market Harborough, Saddington, Kibworth, Catthorpe and Lutterworth.
The figures represent a 57% increase on the Leicestershire force’s clampdown this time last year, when 66 motorists were caught and are the highest ever recorded during a summer campaign.
Officers say 27 arrests were made at the scene of accidents and 21 involved young drivers under the age of 24.
The highest roadside breath test reading was 155 – more than four times the legal limit.
In Northamptonshire there were 70 arrests:
- 46 people were charged with drink driving
- 7 people charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath
- 15 people arrested for drug driving pending the results of blood tests
- 2 people charged with failing to provide a specimen in relation to driving under the influence of drugs
