Specialist contractors have moved into the building to remove asbestos, ahead of the bulldozers entering the site.

Developers expect the demolition to be completed by mid-July, when work will then start to build a new 70-bedroom care home which is expected to be completed in August 2020.

Final plans are also now being put in place to protect to World War One Memorial Portico during the demolition – it is to remain in its current location as part of the multi-million pound re-development of the Coventry Road site, following the closure of the hospital in 2017.
