The existing sandpit at the Rose Garden end of the play area will be increased in size and more sand added.

Play equipment in the middle will also be removed to create more space, and new benches installed close-by.

Harborough Council say the new-look sandpit will be unveiled on July the 13th in time for the school summer holidays.

The upgrade will mean an end to the popular Harborough By The Sea event, which has been held for several years, with bosses saying the work will create the beach-style fun all year round.

Councillor Michael Rickman (pictured), Harborough District Council’s communities lead, said: “We have witnessed how much fun families have had at the Harborough by the Sea event in previous years, so rather than the short period over a weekend, we have decided instead to invest in the park to create a more sustainable, permanent sandpit, with added extras, so people can enjoy all the fun of the beach at any time of the year rather than for just a few short days.”
