Campaign To Save Buses

Campaigners have put up posters encouraging people to complain about changes to bus services that will leave them without any for six hours a day.

The decision by Arriva means no buses will serve Market Harborough’s Southern Estate between 10am and 4pm daily from later this month.

Currently 26 buses a day stop there – that will be cut to just 8.

Posters have been placed on bus stops calling on passengers to voice their concerns to the company, who’ve taken the decision following a review of passenger numbers and boarding times.

Meanwhile, Leicestershire County Council says it will not step-in to look at subsidising that part of the X3 route.

A spokesperson told Hfm: “We’re aware of concerns relating to Arriva’s commercial decision to make changes to its X3 service and we have assessed the impacts of this change against our recently adopted passenger transport policy.

“As this service will continue to provide access to essential services in Harborough town centre, albeit on a less frequent basis, we would not look to subsidise any alternative provision.

“Community Transport is available to any residents with mobility issues.”
