Warning After ‘Fake’ Police Calls
Written by HFM News on 2nd February 2019
A warning is being issued after two people nearly fell victim to a scam in Market Harborough, when they received phone calls from someone claiming to be a Police Officer.
The caller said their bank accounts had been compromised and they needed to withdraw a large amount of cash to be collected and checked by officers.
The alarm was raised after bank staff became concerned after an elderly resident wanted to take out a large sum from their account.
Pc Malc Roberts, from Harborough Police, explained more to Hfm:
Police say they will never call anyone about their bank accounts or request money is withdrawn for them to check.
They are urging anyone who received such a call to ignore it and if concerned to call officers on 101.
