80 Horses Illegally Moved Onto Showground Site

The Leicestershire County Show in Market Harborough could have to be cancelled next year because around 80 horses are illegally fly-grazing on the site.

The animals were placed on land at the Showground, off Leicester Road/Gallowfield Road, a few weeks ago without permission.
The Leicestershire Agricultural Society says it will have no other option than to cancel next year’s Show – and other events due to be held there unless the animals are moved soon, as the ground will be left too badly damaged and will require a major clean-up.

The Society has had to cancel bookings with with organisers of two events that were due to be held there later this month and in December.
Enquiries are on-going to find the owners of the animals – the Society is currently looking at options available to them to get them moved.
A number of the horses have also been getting out onto Gallowfield Road, posing a hazard to drivers and that issue has been made worse after vandals targeted the site on Monday night, destroying around 40 metres of fencing.
Police are investigating and anyone who has any information regarding the incident, should call 101, quoting incident 18000497524.
