Work On New Station Toilets To Finally Start This Autumn

Written by on 19th August 2021

Work to build a new toilet block at Market Harborough railway station will finally start this autumn.

Passengers have been calling for the upgrade, after having to use temporary facilities for over two years.

A new waiting room will also be built as part of the work on the northbound platform, which is set to be completed by next March.

Questions are being asked why the improvements were not included in the £53m revamp of the station, completed in 2019.

Harborough Rail campaigner Phil Knowles spoke to Hfm

Gavin Crook, Principal Programme Sponsor for Network Rail, said: “We are continuing to make progress on a project to bring new toilets for passengers at Market Harborough station and work is on track to start onsite this Autumn.

“There will be a new toilet block with disabled facilities, as well as a waiting room on platform 1.  Improvements were also made to the temporary toilets in March.

“We are working closely with East Midlands Railway to keep disruption for passengers to a minimum and we want to thank people for their continued patience whilst the permanent toilets are closed.”
