Wildflowers Bloom In Market Harborough’s Welland Park
Written by HFM News on 3rd August 2021
A stunning display of wildflowers which is creating a buzz with visitors in Market Harborough’s Welland Park.
The area near the café, which features 25 species of wildflowers, is part of a project to increase biodiversity and attract more birds, bees and butterflies.

Harborough District Council hopes to achieve Green Flag status for the park through the changes, which is a national scheme which rewards well-managed parks and green spaces.
In previous years, some of the park flower beds were only planted up in the summer, with annual bedding, which is not as beneficial for insects and wildlife.
To help nurture biodiversity in the park, the Council has altered the planting in the beds to formal flowers with specimen shrubs on the Welland Park Road entrance, and will be creating a mixed perennial and shrub beds later in the year along the tennis courts. the formal flower beds – near to the café area – are now a wildflower area with blossom trees planted in it.
It’s thanking everyone involved and residents for their positive comments regarding the project.
