Villagers Oppose Quarry’s ‘Early Start’ Plan

Villagers are objecting to plans to allow lorries to leave Husbands Bosworth Quarry early in the morning.

The operator wants up to ten vehicles to be able to exit the site off the A5199 from 6am on weekdays – an hour earlier than currently allowed.

Residents and parish councils in the area have voiced concerns, saying it will create noise disturbance early in the morning and council officers are recommending the change in operating hours is blocked.

The proposed route for the HGVs would see them leave the quarry before travelling southward onto Welford Road.

They would then turn onto Station Road, heading westwards to North Kilworth village.

Applicant Mick George Ltd say the earlier time would better serve the construction industry and limit HGVs in the area during peak traffic hours.

However, planning officers at Leicestershire County Council and say the proposal showed an ‘insufficient demonstration of need’, as the economic and operational reasons in favour of the plan failed to outweigh the impact on the health and wellbeing of nearby residents.

Councillors will consider the application later this week.
