Views Sought On Potential Changes To Waste Collection Service

People are being asked their views on potential changes to waste and recycling services across Harborough.
A number of options are being considered as part of a countywide shake-up of waste management, including:
- Moving black bin collections to every three weeks
- Introducing food waste collections
- Having separate containers for different recyclables
- Scrapping charges for collecting garden waste
The Leicestershire Waste Partnership, which Harborough District Council is part of, is looking to create a uniformed waste service across the county and boost recycling levels at the same time.
It has set out various proposals in the Leicestershire Resources and Waste Strategy 2022-2050, ahead of anticipated changes in government policy on waste and recycling later this year.

A public consultation has been launched for residents to have their say, before any final decisions are made.
A previous food waste collection service across Harborough was scrapped in 2012, due to low usage.
Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council, spoke to Hfm:
Councillor Joe Orson, spokesperson for Leicestershire Waste Partnership, said: “By sharing your views on this strategy, you will help Leicestershire use its resources more efficiently and become a net zero carbon county.
“This is an important consultation which asks residents, businesses and communities to share their views on how we can deliver future waste services, and create a cleaner, greener Leicestershire.”
