John Hatter on his 80th birthday

Tributes are being paid to the man who sadly died at Foxton Locks on Sunday afternoon.

John Hatter, who was 82, had been at the Foxton Locks Inn for Sunday lunch, where he was a regular, before he fell into the canal, after it’s believed he became ill.

Mr Hatter had lived in Foxton for most of his life and had been a Church Warden at St Andrew’s Church in the village for many years, as well as an active member of the local Conservative party.

He died in hospital, despite the efforts of people who pulled him from the canal and provided first aid, and emergency first responders, including Air Ambulance paramedics.

His family, who say he’ll be sadly missed by all who knew him, want to pass on their grateful thanks to all who helped and the emergency services who attended.
