Tree From Late Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations Planted In Welland Park

A tree from the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations has been planted in Market Harborough’s Welland Park.
The sapling formed part of the giant ‘Tree of Trees’ sculpture in front of Buckingham Palace in June, with the park was one of just 300 places nationwide selected to have one of the trees.

A ceremony was held yesterday to put the Rowan tree in the ground, in the same area of the park as the Covid Memorial Tree, opposite the greenhouses near the Welland Park Road entrance.
The late Queen wanted the trees to represent ‘hope, regeneration and optimism.’
Cllr Neil Bannister, Chairman of Harborough District Council, was part of the planting ceemony and spoke to HFM:

The park is one of just five places in Leicestershire selected for the project, which aims to create a living legacy to honour her late Majesty and form part the The Queen’s Green Canopy – an initiative to plant trees to mark the Jubilee year.
The special pot the tree was placed in is now in the Memorial Gardens, where another tree is being grown.
Cllr Bannister said it will then be given to a parish in the District and more trees will then be grown:
