Train Firm Launches Legal Action

Written by on 9th May 2019

The owner of East Midlands Trains has launched legal action against the Department For Transport.

It’s after Stagecoach was disqualified from bidding to continue running rail services through Market Harborough, in a row over pensions rules.

Stagecoach said it could have been left with liabilities of £1.6bn if it had agreed to accept pension risks.

Dutch firm Arbellio was awarded the contract to run services on the Midland Mainline from August.

The DfT say at the time of Stagecoach’s disqualification the company had “repeatedly ignored established rules” other bidders had met.
