Town Council plans Reach Final Consultation Stage

Market Harborough residents are being given a final chance to have their say on proposals for a new town council.

Harborough District Council has backed the creation of a parish council in principle, following a public consultation earlier this year and the result of a local poll held in April.

At present, Market Harborough does not have its own parish council, with Harborough District Council currently delivering services that would normally fall under a town council’s responsibilities.

The authority is now entering the final stage of its Community Governance Review, which is considering whether a new parish council should be created for the town.

A final consultation is now underway on the detailed arrangements for how the council would operate, including its name, the number of councillors it should have, and how the town should be divided into wards.

The consultation runs until 24 July and is the last opportunity for residents to have their say before a final decision is made in September.
