Hugh Connell, 17, will feature in a new documentary starting tonight titled ‘Banged Up: Teens Behind Bars’, which is aimed at steering troubled teens away from a life of crime.

The three-part series will show how Hugh, a former student Robert Smyth Academy, was handcuffed, shackled, made to work in the prison kitchen in Florida, and even sent to a police morgue, in a bid to scare him back onto the right path.

The teenager, who was twice excluded from school, and given a police caution, for carrying a machete-like knife, was nominated to take part by his Mum, Helen.

The first episode airs tonight at 9pm.
