Shake-Up Would See One MP Representing All Of Harborough District

Written by on 8th June 2021

A shake-up of Parliamentary boundaries is recommending one MP serves the entire Harborough District.

Currently the area falls into three constituencies – Harborough, South Leicestershire and Rutland & Melton.

The Boundary Commission is proposing the new Harborough constituency takes in everywhere served by Harborough District Council – an electorate just over 71,000.

The move would mean the Lutterworth area, currently in the existing South Leicestershire constituency, would share an MP with Market Harborough for the first time.

The existing urban areas of the Harborough constituency – Oadby, Wigston and South Wigston – would become part of the new Blaby, Oadby and Wigston constituency.

A consultation into the plan has launched today – if approved the change would take effect in 2023.

There are no major changes proposed for the Parliamentary boundaries in Northamptonshire.
