Save Bus Service Petition Handed In

Written by on 9th August 2018

A petition signed by just under 3,000 people – calling on Market Harborough’s town bus service to be saved – has been handed over to Council bosses.

The signatures have been collected by Liberal Democrat councilors who began a campaign earlier this year, when it was announced the number 33 is under threat.

Leicestershire County Council plan to stop subsidising routes costing too much to operate, for the number of passengers that use them.

The service was named as one of those likely to be axed next year.

Those who use the bus say they rely on the regular service to get to work or access facilities in the town centre.

The Council says responses to public consultation are being considered before a final decision is made later this year.
