Royal Visitors Help Mark Harborough Market’s Anniversary Celebrations

Market Harborough had Royal guests today as The Earl and Countess of Wessex visited town.
Prince Edward and wife Sophie’s visit was part of celebrations to mark the 800th anniversary of Harborough’s Tuesday Market.

The couple were greeted by youngsters from Meadowdale Primary School and then met stallholders in the Market Hall.
The Countess spoke to Gary Graham from the D & S Fruit and Veg stall:
The Royal visitors then walked through St Mary’s Place and along Adam and Eve Street, before visiting Harborough Museum in the Symington Building.

The Earl and Countess also unveiled a plaque under the Old Grammar School, marking the market anniversary, which will be place in the Market Hall.
Youngsters from St Joseph’s School gathered to watch and Prince Edward encouraged them to cheer as the unveiling took place:
Cllr Stephen Bilbie, Chairman of Harborough District Council, who accompanied the Royals on their tour, spoke to Hfm’s Nick Shaw:
A People’s Gallery has been unveiled at Harborough Market today as part of celebrations.
People have contributed to the display in the Market Hall, which depicts markets through the ages, by loaning old photos to feature in it.
An exhibition on the market also opens today at Harborough Musuem.
