Residents To Get Starter Pack Of Liners For Food Caddies

Residents will get a starter-pack of liners for use in storage caddies when a new food waste collection service launches across Harborough next year.

Harborough District Council’s Cabinet approved the move at a meeting last night.

The provision of the initial bin liners will cost the authority between £25,000 and £30,000.

It is a government requirement that all local authorities must introduce a food waste collection service and HDC has been given funding of over £1m to purchase the caddies and new collection vehicles, ahead of the launch of the service across Harborough in late 2026.

A report by council officers said: “While it involves an initial cost to the Council, providing a starter roll of bin liners will hopefully encourage residents to use them consistently, helping to keep the caddies clean and prolong their lifespan.

“Like standard black bin bags, its reasonable to expect residents to purchase their own replacements as the cost is minimal and aligns with common household waste practices.”
